Course Description
“B.B.’s fame is worldwide. The details of his life story are full of the history of our times, and that story has much to offer anyone interested in the American South, in the changing economics and sociology of American race relations, and in the impact of technology on the social mechanisms of American society at large. Moreover, there is much to recommend the story of B.B. King as plain human drama.” Artist to Icon tells that story of B.B. King from his humble beginnings to the road traveled in becoming an American icon and Ambassdor for blues. This lesson is designed for grades 6-8.
Units

Unit 1 A Life in Music
Each person's life story is a unique combination of circumstances, experiences, and the influences of individuals and events. Examining the life story of a famous person can teach valuable lessons. In this unit, you will learn and write about how life experiences shape who you become as individuals. The following three units are designed for grades 6-8.
Unit 2 Singing the Blues
Singing and playing the blues is a meaningful way to express feelings. Bluesman B.B. King communicates those feelings through his singing and by playing his guitar, Lucille. In this unit, you will discover the "Blues" and experience the concept of expressing the Blues.
Unit 3 Adapting to Change
Throughout our lives, we collect things: gifts, books, vehicles, souvenirs, jewelry, photographs and more. Because each person’s collection is unique, it provides one way of telling a story of who we are. Throughout his lifetime, B.B. King has owned a lot of different guitars, dress clothes, music players, and more. In this unit, we are going to look into the kinds of things that have been used during the span of his career.
