Course Description
G17 Digital University is a virtual educational platform ideated by The Road to Rights with the intention of providing the G17 University Ambassadors and Sri Lanka 2030 members a free one of a kind experiential learning space on “Strategic Leadership and Sustainable Development”. This program comprises 20 Units covering various aspects related to policies, governance, SDGs and personality development, where undergraduates get a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills to become the next potential young professionals. Further this curated course will facilitate international and local Individuals/ lecturers who are experts in the subject area. Course aims, - To enhance the knowledge and build the competencies of undergraduates. - To train undergraduates to become responsible, skilful, and resilient young professionals. - To implement SDGs in transforming knowledge and information into actions. - To build a solution oriented and visionary set of future professional leaders Young people are the Future of Today! We believe that this free course will enlighten young people while directing them towards a sustainable future! .

Unit 1 21st Century Leadership and Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by world leaders in 2015, outline an ambitious global agenda for sustainable development. Its 17 goals and 169 targets are interconnected, and together they create a picture of what a sustainable world would look like in 2030. Clearly this mammoth step for humankind was not made overnight; and its history goes several decades back! Therefore as young people it is significant to know the roots, to build our future better through the right leadership for the 21st Century. Further as global citizens and as Nations we have a duty and responsibility vested on us to secure our own future. This agenda provides necessary guidance for all of us on how to act and solve challenges in our community and locally. So, the idea of goal-based development is to help orient the behavior of governments, businesses, and civil society in a shared direction. This module will give you a comprehensive idea of the following, - Historical Milestones of the Agenda 2030 - Significance and relevance of the SDGs to Sri Lanka - Importance of localizing SDGs - Importance of Youth in 2030 Agenda - 21st Century Leadership for Sustainable Development Enhance your SDG knowledge, mold your Leadership style for the 21st Century! Unit 2 Planning for an Inclusive Transformation towards Sustainable Development
The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2015 was preceded by a consultative process that spanned several years. Launched with the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, it involved various thematic and national consultations, expert group initiatives and intergovernmental stages in the form of an Open Working Group of UN Member States convening in 2013 and 2014 and intergovernmental negotiations during 2015. Civil society played an active role throughout this process. Civil society groups strongly advocated for an ambitious and holistic agenda covering a wide set of objectives across social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. They also firmly called for an agenda grounded in human rights principles and aspiring to improve outcomes for all people, including marginalized population groups, and thus an agenda addressing many of the shortcomings of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This unit will give an understanding about the role of Civil Societies in achieving Sustainable development goals. Will be giving you an understanding of the following. - Role of Civil Societies locally and Internationally - The High Level Political Forum (HLPF) - Voluntary National Review (VNR Process) - SDG Platform in Sri Lanka
Unit 3 Government and Sustainable Development
This module will illuminate Ambassadors on the roles played by the SDG Council and other government organisations on the actions taken to achieve sustainable goalsThis will include government vision, mission and actions taken to uplift standards.Further it will focus on 2030 agenda forwarded by United Nations aims to bring an end to poverty, improve opportunities for people across the world and protect the environment in the long-term.
Unit 4 Business Sector and Sustainable Development
Elaborate on how commercial activities play a critical role to maintain the harmony of the sustainable development ecosystem and to achieve its goals. It will discuss how commerce activities namely such as management and coordination of environmental, social and financial demands and concerns to ensure responsible, ethical and ongoing success can be contributed by sustainability.
Unit 5 Circular Economy and Financing on Sustainable Development
Circular economy is the concept based on regenerating natural resources.Its foundation is based on the concept of reusing,resharing,repairing,refurbishing,remanufacturing.recycling materials in a closed loop.Its aimed at reducing carbon emissions,waste,pollution.This motive of regeneration hopes to enhance productivity of materials by continuous use of it in a manner to gain optimum benefit.This session will provide an insight on this economy, how to manage finance in such an economy and overall how this concept contribute to sustainable development.
Unit 6 Youth,Peace and Security
Overview on youth perspective and contribution as peacebuilders from their particular knowledge and experiences on the aspects of violence and injustice including different forms of exclusion and discrimination, from organized crime to sexual and gender-based violence (GBV).
Unit 7 Business and Human Rights
It provides the recognition, dignity , preservation and equality to all people in means of justice,freedom and peace,in means of business activities. Businesses' employers are often questioned on actions taken when concerning an injustice occured to employees .The module will provide an overview on the topic regarding these factors.
Unit 8 Climate Crisis and Action
Emission of green house gases,melting of glaciers,rising of seal-level,food and water scarcity; dealing with climate crisis is a never ending race against time.With continuous crisis issuing from different parts of the world it is assumed to be a race we are losing,but it surely is a race we can win if proper dedication was committed to eliminate this issue.This module will provide guidelines on what are the actions for climate action and how to implement them.
Unit 9 Governance,Law and Order with Policy formulation and Implementation
The studies of Law,Governance and Order,discuss the applications of legislature for national purposes and development context. It applies to both international and national issues.
Unit 10 Diplomacy and World Affairs
The study of DWA are focused on bridging transnational perspectives by means of philosophic ideas,contemporary occurrences,empirical analysis and practical action.
Unit 11 Personal and Professional Development
Personal and Professional is necessary for maintaining reputation of character and career and to maintain a long-term good impression.THe soft skills on character development and professional development are essential to survive the competitive lifestyled society where impression makes a vital role.This module will help to create and make the best impression of a person based on all criterias.
Unit 12 Design Thinking and Data driven decision making
Acknowledging the practice of bringing theoretical aspects to identify and use data driven information that help stakeholders,managers and executives to make vital decisions for a company
Unit 13 Entreperneurship
Providing the skills and techniques of business and financial management while in the process of building and scaling to earn profit
