Course Description
The UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #2 seeks to stop world hunger by 2030. Many people around the world have to spend all day trying to get food for themselves and their families. This means that children and teenagers lack the time or do not have the energy to go to school. However, if we all work together, we can help these people and make a difference with the intention of getting closer to achieving SDG #2. The course is for you between 12 and 13 years old. This course consists of 3 units: - In Unit 1, you will learn more about what Goal #2 consists of. - In Unit 2, we will show you some of the things that people are doing to achieve this goal. - In Unit 3, you will help by providing ideas on how to achieve this goal! Unit 1 “No one should go to sleep hungry” (Zoe Saldana)
“No one should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Everyone deserves and should have daily access to nutritious food. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the world we live in today. ” Zoe Saldana, activist, and actress. What does hunger mean in the world and how many people are affected? This topic is the focus of this unit. First, you will have to watch a video that summarizes Objective #2 with statistics, and then you will have to complete exercises that demonstrate your understanding through short answers and multiple-choice questions.
Unit 2 What great things have been done?
In this unit, we will see some of the great projects that have been carried out to achieve SDG #2. You will learn about: 1. Restaurants Against Hunger: An initiative happening in the Philippines that by choosing certain dishes at restaurants, you will be donating food to those who need it at the same time. 2. Starbucks FoodShare program: a hunger relief program Starbucks has started to give their surplus quality food to people that cannot afford it through a partnership with Feeding America. Additionally, you will have to click on the link in which the awesome Robby Novak, also known as Kid President, talks about the campaign #ChildHungerEndsHere. Then, questions will be asked based on the videos and the link.
Unit 3 Come up with your best ideas on how to reach Goal #2
In this last unit, you will brainstorm ideas on how to help achieve this goal. Here are some suggestions to get you started and get inspired: 1. Let's stop food waste today! 2. Be brave and let's think about the food of the future. You can get inspiration by watching the video "Why eating insects makes sense" 3. Eat according to the season of the year 4. How about trying 3D printed food? You will see two videos, one that will tell you about how insects can be a source of protein and another about how food can be 3D printed today.
