Course Description
What are some of the things that come to mind when you think of education? Is it a book, tests, lectures, homework, chalk, or perhaps iPad While some may dread to wake up early from schools, others live in societies that prevent them from accessing any kind of education. Goal#4, goes beyond this because we want to you start thinking more along the lines of education as: human rights, ending poverty and discrimination, opportunity, democracy and peace.
Units

Unit 1 Would you take a bullet for education?
"The purpose of my life is to see every child go to school and get an education... I speak for those children whose right to safety, health and quality education has been snatched from them,"Malala Yousafzai Quick Fact on Goal#4 It can be traced back to the “Education for All” (Senegal, April 2000) focused on ensuring primary education for all by 2015, bu today it also promotes inclusive and equitable quality education as well as lifelong learning opportunities for all. CASE STUDY Have you heard of Malala Yousafzai? She was literally shot by the Taliban for speaking out on girls’ right to education. Would you be capable of doing the same? Have you ever thought what it would be like if someone forbid you to get any kind of education- what would your future hold for you? Head over to the materials section to read and watch the story of Malala, how toilets play a role in education and why Goal4 can be the key of the SDGs.
Unit 2 It’s more than Wikipedia and Youtube tutorials
Ah the internet- don’t you just love how you can learn something or have your questions answered with the click of a button? We’ve all been there… Googled questions like “How to cook eggs?” or “How to find a good loot on Fortnite?”. Goal #4 is all about making quality education accessible to ALL regardless of who you are, the situation you were born into or how much money you have. Digital learning (just like this exactly course and platform) is a powerful key to making this goal a reality. How can this be possible? Head over to the materials section to find out how the world of Ed-Tech is making a change!
Unit 3 Discrimination & Access to Education- What can you do?
The major challenges regarding Goal#4 have to do with ACCESS to education. In some parts of the world, people can’t access education because there aren’t any facilities available. In others, people choose not to attend schools because they face racial or gendered discrimination. Since education is HUMAN RIGHT, governments should “protext, respect and fulfill the right to education”. What can YOU do about this? The sky's the limit really… in the materials section we have gathered tons of awesome ways people are making a difference. If you need some inspiration on how you can make a difference, we have examples of youth contributing to Goal#4! We at CanopyLAB believe that the SDGs will only become a reality if people like you take action and work together with people in your community. You can also collaborate and share ideas with people from all over the world thanks to the internet- and to platforms like these that help you connect with like-minded change-makers! We believe in you, show us what you got!
